Alarmguy
Hey everyone. I'm fairly new to doing my own car maintenance. Is it pretty easy to change out a car door lock? What would I need and what part should I search for online? I replaced my driver side doors with junkyard doors some years ago so now my ignition key doesn't unlock the door. I'm fine with having different keys for the door and the ignition/glove box. Just want to make sure I don't get locked out of the car again

tony saurus
Are you asking about a re-key on a single lock or replacing a locking unit? A rekey is a YouTube thing. I’ve never done it, but it can be done. If you saved the unit from your original junkyard replacement, you may even be able to swap the lock core Replacing a locking unit. The entire door latch assembly is a one and done. I think. I am honestly hoping that with my response, more will chime in with accurate, experience based feedback. I will ask my locksmiths on Monday to verify Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
