Upgrade from Spec-B Rims?

LowFast

Recommended Posts

I really wish Subaru had made the spec-b rims 8" wide, then there would be no debate. But at only 7" wide they look weak and I feel the car needs a wider tire to look more muscular. So...Thinking about selling the stock spec-b rims and going to a 8" or even 8.5" aftermarket rim. Looking for suggestions, keeping in mind that I really like the look of the spec-b rims, just they are too skinny.:icon_frow

Also, what you do think I could get for the stock rims? They are $390ea from subaru + whatever the tires are worth. Only 800 miles on the car so rims and tires are litterally brand new.

I open the floor for comments and oppinions.

$1K seems to be the going price for take-off Spec B wheels. You should have no problem getting at least that with tires.

Prodrive P1's are offered in 18x7.5 with a factory like 53mm offset (or 17x7). They come in anthracite, silver and gold. Here's a pic of my wagon with anthracite:

If you want to go wider, Rota makes 18x8 in some similar looking wheels as well.

Is there any reliable way to have a cast rim widened? I know billet rims are easy to widen, but cast, I don't know. It would be pretty sweet to keep the stock JDM look but have some really fat tires underneith.:icon_bigg

Ummm.....no. Cast won't deal well with that.

I am running 18x8 and 245/35/18 for my summmer set....they look OEM because Subaru puts BBS RE's on the STi S203 (and I put STi emblems on my Rota copies):

There are definitely many aftermarket Rota rims to get for your Spec B and Prodrive rims are unbelievably gorgeous. I wouldnt sell your stockers though because if you go to sell your car, buyers will probably want them with it and if you tell them they have to find them else where they might not go for it. Its up to you though, but damn if I had a set of the Spec B rims, I would not part with them since they are so nice.

JDM'd All to hell

Thanks Jimmy @ Hkc-Speed.com!

have you weighed the wheels? i bet you could save some unsprung weight. if i owned a spec b I would sell the 18's for some lighter and wider 17s. but if you want 18's keefe has a really nice set of SSRs for sale in the Mid Atlantic regional forum.

I really like the PFF7's and the OZ Super/Ultralegera's, both I think look classy and would fit the spirit of the car. If I did decide to sell I would have to get way more than $1000 in order to do the deal. If anyone is seriously interested shoot me a pm, keep in mind that I am on the fence and am just feeling the waters right now.

I agree with you guys, the spec-b rims are sweet just not wide enough, parked next to my truck in the garage with the 295 rears they look like bicycle tires. What is the widest tire I could safely fit on the 7" rim, a 225/45?
