Clutch Thump

Recommended Posts

So I was driving around with my dad this past weekend, and he noticed a thump sound. This sound comes when you let the clutch out and let go of the clutch pedal. It seems like the clutch pedal spring is too tight or something because when it returns to its original position it thumps against something. I thought that I might be letting go of the clutch too soon, but let the clutch gently return to its original position requires you to move your foot too far up...real uncomfortable. Does anyone else have this issue? Is this issue resolvable? I never noticed it before, until my dad mentioned it, and it really is kinda annoying now that I know it is there.

Could be something simple, but I had this same sound when the clutch was engaged in an Accord I had. It was pretty serious, it was some prong, or fork thing in the tranny that required the tranny be dropped in order to fix it. Not saying this is what is wrong with yours, but it sounded like what I had.

I was told it was from either beating the crap out of the car, or someone didn't know how to drive/break-in the manual trans properly.

Anyway, I dumped that car pretty fast, then got a 99 Maxima, which I absolutely hated. Thing was cherry, 29k miles, but what a retared car it was. Nissan fit and finish is terrible. Now I am back in another Accord, mint. ANd my Legacy is better.

If you are still under warranty take it to the dealer and have them look at it, it is probably something simple, like a control arm, or something else. Good luck let us know how it goes for you.

Is it most noticeable going from 1st gear to 2nd gear, under acceleration?

See here

I still have that thumping, been too lazy to take it to the dealer. But the next time I do go to the dealer (whenever that is) I would bring it up.
