romanb111
Hi, I love this car but after only 3000 miles the clutch pedal fell to the floor. The Dealer service has told me Subaru wants to come take a look at it because the way it was worn ' shows signs of abuse'. They won't cover the $1300 repair bill. I broke the car in correctly never going over 4000 then I drove it very fast but not hard. I feel soooo bad if I killed my baby but I wasn't abusive. Does anyone have any suggestions? PGT
they have to prove you were abusive, they can't just say that. Have the regional factory rep will look at your car for a warranty determination - it takes them alot more effort to turn down warranty to cover it, so they have to have a good case. edmundu
An '06 huh? I guess that throws out the theory of a updated clutch asembly. Sorry to hear about your clutch, but you should have this covered 100%, as it has been noted a number of times by others, and they had it replaced without hassle. PGT
remember, "Big SOA brother" reads this board....so watch way you say and disclose. 100% correct. The comments I made were exactly what the SOA rep told me when I spoke with him a week ago.
romanb111
I feel reborn. Subaru will replace my clutch as a 'goodwill gesture' but they are forcing me to sign agreeing that I was abusive and that they will not cover the clutch again. A $1300 headache has been lifted but I still have to wonder...did I buy a lemon? You're right. Subaru reads these posts and you guys have become powerful influencers. I couldn't have bought the car without your help in picking a dealer and service and finding prices. There is a movement to recall the Legacys because of clutch stink. The most recent answer to the mystery is that is is actually the undercarriage spray and it should go away.

Mr. Ed
Don't sign anything like that and take the TSB's that apply with you. It sounds like you ahve a known issue and the dealership is trying to get out of fixing it. http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2041 not sure if that applies but I found it looking for answers about my own problem. CreoSTi
^ Agree. Why would you sign anything that admits guilt, when you say you did not abuse the car/clutch? -Mike-
legacy_y_tu
^^ What they said! Don't sign $hit!. ...or ask them to sign your document which states that you were coerced to sign their document in order to receive waranty coverage and that your signature of said document should not be construed as admission of guilt....blah, blah, blah. melayout
Your perfectly happy to admit to something you didn't do and in writing. Either you don't care or you were abusive. Wake up mon. Anyways, the clutch is covered under the 36k/3yr bumper2bumper warranty, as long as you didn''t molest it. I keed I keeed
GraysonSubaru
wow. never heard the part about a dealer wanting you to sign anything like that.
Opie
I've seen people that molested their clutches into oblivion in 3,000 miles (or less)... ...and I would guess that if they are asking you to sign something like that...they have a VERY strong case that something other than normal wear or a defect caused the problem and they are taking care of it to be nice. Of course not really knowing any specific details of the situation...I'm just guessing. And for the record our dealership still has not had 1 complaint of "clutch-stink" from any '05 - '06 Legacy customers so it's apparently not very widespread as this forum would indicate... GraysonSubaru
I did ask the service rep today about signing that thing..apparently it is an SOA thing. We have just never had the situation where it came up for any customers. we have not had any clutch stink issues on any LGT's here that I have heard of first hand...we have replaced one clutch as mentioned in another thread under warranty but the customer was one of our customers and we try to take care of them as best we can. Somewhat offtopic, but that is ridiculous. I brought my stage 2 in for something minor, and when I got it back and cabin was full of clutch stink. I mean I was kind of pissed off that the techs were beating on it, but at least it wasn't broken or wrapped around a tree when I got it back........ The techs do not beat on the cars. JT has been with Subaru as a tech since around 1980 and Terry is one of the best motor/tranny techs you will ever find. I apologize if they made you feel like they were hard on your vehicle, but assure you that they do not abuse customer's or their own vehicles. c-lo
I don't know, don't sign sh!t admitting to something you didn't do. This clutch thing is a big issue for me because when my outbacks clutch went bad within the first couple months of ownership, it took them nearly a year to fix the F@#$ing thing. I've posted this before, but seems that only after I sent a letter demaning my money back and claiming my car a lemon, the parts needed to fix my car magically showed up at the dealership. Thankfully, (knock on wood) I've got no issues with my clutch on the LGT. If I did, I don't know if I'd keep the car. 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
OCDetails
Don't sign anything like that! Are you insane? Were you born last night or something? They know it is an issue and they are trying to blame you for it so they don't have to do a recall or something like that. There is a lawsuit here waiting to happen and SOA knows about it. They want you to sign their form so you aren't the one to file the first case. Don't sign it. Call a lawyer and explain the situation to them. I'm sure SOA would love to hear from an attorney about what that dealership is trying to pull. Don't let them get away with this. CALL A LAWYER and DON'T SIGN SHIT. However, if you are in the mood to sign documents admitting to guilt for things you didn't do, then I've got a document right here that claims responsibility for the assasination of JFK and the destruciton of the Twin Towers. If you want to give me your information then I'll send it over to you so you can sign on the dotted line. I'll even include a stamped envelope so you can forward it on to the FBI when you have signed it. _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S .
