2006 Legacy Spec B engine

Someone please help. I was told my 2006 Legacy Spec B needs an engine ...they want over 6 grand to do it. Any suggestions. Just put new Turbo on it a month ago...alot of money has been recently put into replacing many engine components and also front end suspension replaced. 1. Is this a fair price ? How can I do it cheaper. They offered a grand to trade it in and if I decide to not have them do the work and tow it out they will charge me an additional $265 to "put it back together". Someone please help I don't know what to do and I do not have 6 grand to give Subaru.

1K to trade it in? A Spec B? Taking advantage of you here...

Why do they say you need a new engine? Does it knock? Did they drop the oil pan and found lots of metal in it?

A brand new shortblock is about 2K. Then, about 5-700$ to refresh your heads. Head gasket kit is another 250$ or so. Then, while you are in there, may want to replace the water pump, oil pump, oil cooler, timing belt kit. That's another 600-700$ I think. How is your clutch and flywheel?

So, the above quoted $$ is just for parts.

Where do you live?

That seems in the relative ballpark considering labor. 1000 bucks as a trade in for a spec B with a blown engine does seem quite low.

I would be interested to see what they found that leads them to believe the engine is fried.

It may be a legitimate quote from the dealer, but that doesn't mean that its fair. One might argue that the fact that it is a dealership quote would exclude it from being fair hahaha

Did you miss the fact that it was three years ago and you have zero information on the condition of the car other than it needs an engine?  Your statement is uniformed.  They may well have been generous.  Car was already 14 years old and could have 200k miles on the odometer and a trashed interior.  $6k for an engine was a fair price as well.

i honestly have no idea why you are getting so defensive, no definite statements have been made, ive never claimed to be informed about the car, and actually on the contrary, i said, "I would be interested to see what they found that leads them to believe the engine is fried." i made a joke at the expense of dealerships. if you work at a dealership and took offense to that, i apologize as there was no way i could've known that. other than that, nothing was said about you except for someone having a different opinion.

i did not miss any of that information. Being that's your point I'm curious as to your level of knowledge on the situation being that its from three years ago and this is the only comment that this user made. Judging from your generous use of "could" and "maybe", it sounds like you also have zero information on the condition of the car making your assertions baseless.

I owned a Subaru shop.  If a car came in with a doa engine standard offer was $500.  Dont care how good the car was otherwise.  Bought a few.

$1000 for a car with a dead engine sitting in your shop is a good offer to the owner.  06 SpecBs were nothing special.  No 6MT.

Dont work at a dealership.  Never have.  But working at a dealership does not automatically make you a crook and most dealerships are running an honest business.  They just have extreme overhead to cover.

I couldn't agree more about dealerships, i think making sweeping generalizations doesn't serve any rational purpose, which is even more to the point that it was a joke.

So you do i have experience to draw from, i will concede that. i got your point, you disagree with the assessment that has been made of a lowball offer. I guess we can agree to disagree.
