Northern1
I believe water is seeping into my trunk via the spoiler as whenever it rains the underside of the trunk lid is wet and I'm not currently seeing any other way the water can be there. So I gotta seal that up but in the meantime I noticed the carpet and board covering the spare wheel is moldy as hell. The board covering the spare is I think some kinda inexpensive fiberboard which I figured I could probably fashion easily by using the existing one as a template. Has anyone done this? What material is exactly the cover board? Also where besides the dealer can I possibly get the carpet replaced? I live in Canada. I considered cleaning the carpet but not sure if it's salvageable or cleanable without destroying it.
choover1101
I have been using a piece of 1/4" clear hard plastic over the tire well for years. Sold as a hard bathroom floor mat. Only down side is stuff slides around back there. I pulled all carpet and bedlinered due to water damage when I got my 96GT. (I had to pull the plastic out as my new full size spare does not fit completely in the wheel well. 235/60-16) I missed the part about replacing the carpet, LMC, Jegs, Summit Racing, or maybe a local carpet store might be a source for some carpet. I would use headliner spray adhesive to glue it down to whatever material you decide to make the new one out of. Also, keep a small scrap of the original carpet to match as best you can. Northern1
Thanks for the reply. I think I might just use a piece of plywood. As for the carpet I see that it's some kinda foam mat and then there's the grey cover. Trying to figure how much I can possibly salvage but I'm thinking to just buy a replacement carpet if it's not crazy expensive.
doublechaz
Best to paint the wood to make it stand up to abuse longer.
Das Ninjabot
I had to replace mine as well, but went to a salvage yard and got a new board, carpet, and 3rd gen tool kit and foam insert for $20.
RyanShort
I had the same situation a couple of days ago... What did you decide to do in the end? My entire trunk is completely flooded with water. My children did it, but I try not to be angry with them because I was also a little prankster who often broke something in childhood. In general, I think to contact the floor restoration specialists. They already helped us once when we were flooded by neighbors who live on the floor above us. I hope they do similar work too. In any case, I will be very grateful for your advice and suggestions on cleaning. Thank you in advance! Edited May 7, 2021 by RyanShort
Northern1
Carpet I cleaned and let it dry out in the sun. As for the spare wheel cover I bought some kinda corrugated plastic and cit it to fit.
