Driver-side airbags

Hello Everybody,

 

I apologize if this is a ridiculously simple question, but I could not find enough of what felt a directly stated answer to feel satisfied in either the dealer's printout or my manual and I wanted to be absolutely sure.

 

I do believe that the 2016 model Legacy comes with driver's side airbags. If this is in fact correct, what exactly does it mean?

I believe the full name is side curtain airbags.

This is for the 2018 but 2016 is similar.

There is a front airbag, which deploys from the steering wheel, and side curtain airbags which deploy from the roofline.

The authoritative answer is right there in the 2016 Legacy/Outback Owners Manual, beginning on page 1-41. There's even a nice diagram on page 1-48.

 

There are actually four airbags on the driver's side:

 

1. Frontal - deploys from steering wheel
   
2. Curtain - deploys from above the door
   
3. Side - deploys from the seat back
   
4. Seat cushion - embedded in the seat bottom's thigh support
