Air/fuel sensor stuck (2009 Legacy 2.5i SE)

Recommended Posts

I’m attempting to replace the air/fuel sensor and have not been able to loosen the existing sensor from the exhaust. Watched videos, read a bunch of posts here and elsewhere, and the consensus seems to be that a combination of heat and Blaster PB should do the trick. I’ve tried heating the sensor to red hot and applying multiple rounds of Blaster to no avail. The way the nut is lined up is making it even harder to get good leverage on the wrench as the handle is lined up right next to the engine. Any other tips I can try?

Do you have an acetylene torch so you can really get it hot? Propane is not even enough...

Soak overnight in Kano Kroil if you can get some.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was using a torch with MAP-Pro fuel but that alone wasn't doing the trick. I did multiple applications of PB Blaster over several hours, tapping the base of the sensor with a hammer after each application. I let it soak for about 4 hours total. I then yanked the wrench as hard as I could and it popped loose. After that changing the sensor out was easy. Hoping changing the one sensor does the trick (no CEL so far) but will probably need to put a few more miles on it to let the system fully reset.
