rtp
I've driven 75,000 miles on the exact same stretch of highway for 3 years straight. Been hit by just about everything another vehicle can throw at you and haven't had anything but a chip... but tonight... Got hit by a rock on the passager side of the windshield about a 1/2 inch from the edge. Split it to the middle within a few miles. Somebody's trying to send me a message, because things keep happening so I can't spend money on making this car faster... just got to keep fixing it. KTM 525
Be glad it did not hit the hood/nose. I'll take a windsheild hit like that over a paint hit anyday.
SLegacy99
I was leaving my parents house in SC once, headin back to PA when a screw driver hit and cracked my windshield. Worse part is that I had Subaru Decal across the top of my windshield so I had to spend a whole saturday with a hair dryer pulling this sticker off in order to repair the damage. Therefore I would like to askone driving a pickup truck to keep a hold on their tools.
rtp
Yes, my insurance will cover it, but it such a pain to get replaced. I should probably just wait till next spring to get it done... that way I'll get through the entire winter/sand season and then get a new one. I've got a clear bra on the front hood, which I'm sure will pay for itself in no time at all.
coxx
I got full glass coverage, zero deductable. I've used it twice already & going for #3 soon. approx 36k miles on my car. I feel like these windshields are made out of paper or something. & each time I needed to get it replaced, it was a bitch b/c the glass co kept ignoring me & ordering the non wiper defroster windshield. I mustve told them 3 or 4 times each time. delayed it 2 weeks too. Now I need it done again, gonna use a different glass co for sure this time "Barack Obama, mothaf#%@a! Barack Obama! I'm the president...of hittin' the ass!" -this is not a political view it's merely a quote from a hilarious tv show.
SLegacy99
My understanding is that with most insurance companies will replace your windshield with a $50 deductable. All depends on your plan though. They do it though because apparently those sand particles in the glass account for a good number of accidents, therefore they wanna replace it for ya. coxx
the glass co my insurance used delayed me the first time b/c they didnt listen about the heated glass. 2nd time, they swore up & down the could fix it without replacing the whole windshield, WORTHLESS. all the did was gel the hole shut so it wouldnt spread, still see a nice crack. I told them I wanted a whole new windshield since that looks like shit. They agreed, & I reminded them about the heated glass 4 or 5 times. They said no problem. They also wanted to do it in my driveway but it was raining the whole week. I told them it was gonna rain on the day they scheduled it but they insisted it wouldnt. Whaddya know, it f-ing rained. Didnt matter anyways b/c they ordered THE WRONG F-ING GLASS!!. The non-heated windshield. After that I cancelled the job, called my insurance to make sure they didnt get paid, & decided to shop for a different glass co. I was pissed to say the least, but it was a blessing in disguise b/c a week later another rock flew up & cracked a different part of my windsheild. So now this will be the #3 windshield job. MassiveAttack
You are lucky to get up to 75,000 with nothing but a chip. My wife's forester took a rock from a dump truck on the third day she owned and cracked the windshield. The Jetta GLI that I traded in on my Legacy, busted the rim on it within the second week of owning it. Didn't even see the pot hole until too late. Called VW and they wanted $600 for the BBS RC II rim. That is a rim and no tire. I found one online from a dealership in CA for only $280. I had to drive around for almost 3 weeks in my brand new car with the full size spare on the front.
SLegacy99
I dropped my Legacy off for service once and my dad was gracious enough to give me a ride home. He had spent $400 to replace the windshield in his A6 2 months prior. We went under a bridge and something fell and crackd the windshield again. The weird thing is that my family keeps having this happen to us, when a few years before we never had a problem.
