KazeSupra
Hello everyone! My transmission just took a dump and I’ve been pursuing options for replacement. I’ve seen Brendan’s STi swap thread, and to be honest, that’s a little much for me to undertake right now. I was curious of 2 things: 1) I noticed RalliSpec has upgrades for a lot of Subaru transmissions. However they don’t specifically notate that they work with our trans. Does anyone have experience with getting their trans upgraded, or know for sure what parts are compatible? 2) I noticed when looking at used transmissions that there are different part numbers for the 2012 GT (TY756VLCCA) vs the 2010-2011 (TY756WLAAA). Does anyone know what the differences between the two are and if that’s drop in compatible with my car? Thanks in advance!
KazeSupra
So the answer to 1) is no. The best they have is REM treated gears, which would probably make them stronger, but maybe not STi strong. So now to find out the answer to 2)... poconoracing
Looks like all the gear ratios and such are the same. https://legacypic.uk/transmission/search.php?code=ty756wlaaa https://legacypic.uk/transmission/search.php?code=ty756vlcca

KazeSupra
Yeah, I might just risk is since the price is substantially cheaper (and there are examples closer as well). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DrD123
Doesn't look like there are a lot of differences - nothing was called out in the new vehicle info for the 2012 related to the transmission. Comparing the service manual, there are differences in the transfer case (two additional needle bearings and snap rings in the transfer drive gear, the shift bracket is also a little different), the shift lever on the transmission looks to be a different shape, and the lock plate for the differential side retainer was moved in the front differential. that's just things that are visibly different in the service manual - I would check part numbers for pieceparts to be sure nothing else was changed. All the connection points are the same as far as I can tell. I would think it would drop in.

I ended up finding a used trans for a good price, but it’s nice to know that this would be an option, so thank you for that!
