Water fording and issues

So today I forded some water. I'm not sure how deep. Maybe up to the door molding on a stock height outback. Didn't really think about it I was just like well glad I didn't lower it, intake is high, let's do it.

 

Reading around I'm not sure how deep you can really go. Not a normal occurrence but can't really find any solid answers. Apparently cold water on a hot diff can cause a vacuum effect and pull in water. Good thing I'm doing that soon anyway. Anything else to check? Maybe I'll run a breather hose for the rear diff up to the firewall for the future.
