DonnyJagaru
Howdy all, as above. Any way around this? It seems programming the keyless entry is no problem but the immobilizer calls for a Subaru specific electronic tool. Car is '08 Legacy/OB. Sorry for big picture, wouldn't let me upload one from local machine.
Infosecdad
Couple of options. 1. Cut open and existing key, extract the tiny box and insert into that key pictured 2. Go to the Subaru dealer and pay them to program a new key 3. Find one of the few locksmiths that can handle reprogramming it. I went with #1 myself, but all have been done by someone. DonnyJagaru
I should've clarified. What I have is one working key. I've ordered two more. I think what I'll do is remove the immobilizer chip and stick it on the induction coil/antenna in the lock tumbler. This will negate the immobilizer functionality of course, but given the cars age likely won't be an issue. I *thought* programming the buttons was straightforward but it sounds like you're saying the dealer needs to be involved in this too?
Infosecdad
You can program the FOB buttons yourself, there are a number of resources for that. You would only need the dealer for the immobilizer part.
