subiefan15
Yes I was expecting the prices to be higher as well. The Legacy XT is appealing but I would have to drive one for a day or so mainly to see how I would deal with that 11.6 inch screen, that seems like a distraction without essential functions (HVAC) immediately available. I would rather push a physical button or turn a knob. Also auto start stop sucks, and having to go through three pages in that large screen to disable it is stupid. Auto start stop might be common among most auto manufacturers these days but I just wont have it.
laufu
In reading the press release, it seem like Subaru isn't offering the Harmon Kardon audio anymore. The press release is missing some information. Example, it does not mention SI-Drive for the Sport model. Unless it is a last minute marketing decision. The website and the brochure still mentions hte Harmon Kardon radio for the Limited models. https://www.subaru.com/2020-legacy https://www.subaru.com/guides/legacy-flipbook/my20/?utm_source=com&utm_medium=cta&utm_term=LEG&utm_campaign=prepro&utm_content=MY20#p=

Weren't Legacy GT Limited's $31k? Which is 35k now? And the Premiums have MUCH more stuff then even Limiteds of 2009 , sans leather. But still to your point, adjusted for inflation, $31k would be $40.5k today. The current 3.6R OB Touring is $39,970 with the destination charge. I still find this price absurd, especially with the Ascent being a "bigger/better" cars 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK

So many other manufacturers have learned people prefer buttons and are moving back to buttons. Subaru has shown up 5 years late to the party to find every gone. capttris
I agree with everyone here. As much as I love my 2013 Legacy Limited, I think my next car would be an Outback, for the additional rear space, more exterior cladding for protection, etc. But $40K for a loaded Outback, when an Ascent Limited is $40K, is a tough call. And the 11" display - I agree, I like buttons, and HATE bright screens when night driving. I one borrowed a family member's $100K Range Rover and spent 10 minutes trying to find a way to dim/turn off/night mode the center display screen, only to take a fleece jacket and throw it over the dash, so I could drive at night! I'm also surprised that Subaru put safety items as high-end-only options only available in the XT Limited, like Front End Display and DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System. High end models should be about Luxury and "wants", not safety items. The pricing strategy isn't unique to Subaru. Many manufacturers price loaded-out lower-model cars, near/over the next model up. In any case, the new OB models and pricing vs Ascent, might lean my decision towards that. Hard to say. I just clay-barred and waxed my Legacy last weekend and I'm not planning to do anything with it any time soon. Just keep driving and maintaining it, as usual. ehsnils
I can agree that the safety items should be in place on most models, but I can also understand the reason to start softly so that not every vehicle is equipped with it in case there's a problem that has to be rectified. Personally I avoid the luxury version to not get a sunroof/moonroof since that's an item that I have bad experiences with and I never really use it. DrD123
Weren't Legacy GT Limited's $31k? Which is 35k now? no - the 2012 Legacy 2.5GT with Nav was $34,345 - going back to 2010, the GT limited with NAV was $33,685... So it's a Legacy GT, but much fancier inside with many more bells and whistles - MSRP for the Legacy XT Limited is $34,145 (not clear if that's with destination on the Subaru website, but if it does, the MSRP for the XT Touring would be less than the 12 Legacy GT, and that's in 2019 dollars, not 2012 dollars) Sad part is it's CVT only. (not that the CVTs don't drive nice, I just prefer a manual.)
DrD123
Noticed the XT Touring even has automatic power-folding side mirrors - first time that's shown up in a USDM Subaru, I think!
DrD123
To provide comparison of pricing, a 19 Accord with the 2.0T and NAV is $35,920 (incl dest), and a 19 Camry XLE V6 with NAV is $37,

Pilot1226
I'm torn. The Legacy is still too small for me at this point in my life (coaching two kids' baseball & soccer teams and anything else that has to get lugged around), but the Outback seems good. I leased a 2019 Foz earlier this year but I do feel that the wagon aspect was more suited to me, and I liked the deeper cargo hold compared to the taller on e on the Foz. I'm toying with the idea of breaking the lease early (since the residual of the car is still high, they're able to come very close to a break even buyout of it which means they'd pay for the remaining payments and buyout price)... to look into the Gen6 Outbacks. The XT has no default moonroof, so the extra headroom might be nice for me... Otherwise I might end up going for the Touring XT because it's only an extra thousand or two more than the Legacy and fully loaded. With Ventilated Seats! But, I think I'd want the turbo either way. The 2.5 is great in the Forester, but every once and a while I just want a little more power. Or, because I drive city most of the time, might just have to hold on for a hopefully hybrid variant. Regarding the knobs and dials - I agree. My wife's Honda Pilot has a touch screen interface for volume, etc. I'm a little hesitant that the CLIMATE controls are all on the computer - one point of failure means multiple system failures - but I do believe you can always use voice recognition instead of going through all the menus... As long as I have a physical radio tuning button/dial and a volume button/dial I should be good. I keep my Forester in "Auto 65" mode all the time anyway, except I will use MAX A/C mode when I first start up for a few minutes. Regarding pricing, it seems the biggest jump is going from a Limited to a Limited XT. Edited July 21, 2019 by Pilot1226
IcEWoLF
If I i were to get any Subaru’s I’d go for the limited at least, that’s the sweet spot. The Napa leather in the touring is nice too.
