jaylew Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Hey guys, So my air conditioning there are definitely no leaks as it blows nice and cold and has for years without needing to recharge. After driving a while (2+ hours on a 85+ degree day) I do notice that the air flow gets reduced even with the fans on full. The air is still cold. It is as if the heat exchanger is freezing over blocking all air flow. My solution has been to just turn off the A/C button select the air to flow from the outside to help thaw things out. After about 5 minutes all is good. I was told by a friend that the issue is the dryer is old and needs replacement. This means a new condenser too (as far as i know the dryer is built into the side of the condenser) Just looking for anyone to confirm this before I go buying parts. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/subaru,2005,legacy,2.5l+h4+turbocharged,1430733,heat+&+air+conditioning,a/c+condenser,6708 The DENSO or CSF is likely what I would go with if I need a new unit, since the OE is $237 Thanks Wagon is LIFE! - 272,000 miles and climbing Unofficial Build (Restoration) Thread Steering Rack Rebuild
Max Capacity Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Just saying when my cars did basically that, buy would not continue to blow cold air, or may be I didn't real feel it was as cold as it was before. I replaced the $6.00 AC relay in the under hood fuse box. both cars work great now. A while later I did have my trusted mechanic service both systems. That relay is the same as the headlight relay if I remember right. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). jaylew Posted July 9, 2019 Author Posted July 9, 2019 gotcha, i'll check the relay but I think its a build up of condensation that is then freezing on the cold heat exchanger. When I notice airflow is reduced out of the vents, I can hear the fan and turbulent air under the dash. It is still cold coming out the vents, just minimal CFM for the fan at full tilt.
