08 Legacy GT Limited Auto HVAC controls fan

Recommended Posts

Hello all, it's been a while since I've been here but I am stumped on my issue

History:

Back in December my HVAC fan bearings went and the fan was making a horrible racket. Replaced it with one from the junk yard and was working fine till about mid April when the fan just didn't work anymore. I checked fuses, the relay, tried to put the old fan back but nothing worked.

I researched here and online and the only other thing it could have been was the blower motor transistor. Found someone local parting out their car and tested their transistor in my car. It worked immediately with my fan in my car but I didn't install it fully at their place. Got home installed it and the fan that was quiet since December started to sound like the one I had originally. Turned it off and left it over night because I was frustrated. The next day I turned it on again and didn't have any fan anymore. I tried putting in the old noisy fan but it won't turn on either.

I've been driving this way for a while but now it's starting to get hot and I'll need some A/C soon.

I haven't checked fuses, relay yet however I hear the relay clicking when I turn it on so I doubt that is the issue.

I'm pretty certain it's the transistor but what could cause it to go after one day? If I was to buy a brand new one I'd be afraid of it stopping too.

Is there anyway to test the transistor unit?

Thanks in advance...
