masterxchief Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 I have an appointment scheduled to see Subaru about this in a couple of weeks but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas about this issue. This is on my 2015 Subaru Legacy 3.6r Basically the window controls for everything except the drivers window stop working intermittently and also the steering wheel controls specifically on the left side stop working intermittently. During the same drive where they aren't working they may start working again. To give more background to this, I had some terrible experiences with Steven's Creek Subaru that have led to these issues. They replaced my head unit but damaged my dashboard so they agreed to replace the dashboard. In replacing the dashboard they forgot to wire things back properly so first the speedometer didn't work and then the push to start button didn't work. They kept the car for over a week trying to figure out why it wouldn't work. During that week they told me that rodents might have been in the car (they had the dash removed with the windows sitting open when they had my car). When I finally got the car back, they had damaged my seats and gear shifter and refused to fix it. The bigger issue was that the car was struggling to start, the 12v outlet wouldn't work, and I couldn't get the windows to open. The 12v outlet was an easy fix because it turned out to be a blown fuse and the starting issues just ended up being a bad battery (Subaru said it was in good health despite the issues). This was all about 8 months ago and now the windows are acting up again in addition to the steering wheel controls. I don't know enough about the electrical system on cars to have a valid theory as to what could be going on. This is where I am hoping I can get some help from the smart folks here. My speculation is: 1.Bad fuse (though the intermittent nature of the issue seems to go against that) 2. Battery charge is low (Car is driven everyday though) 3. Rodents did get into the car when Subaru had it sitting around and some wiring is damaged 4. The electrical system was not properly connected back together after they reassembled the dashboard tl;dr What can cause the window switches or steering wheel controls to stop working intermittently? I am going to take it to Subaru but I would like to go in with some idea of what they should be looking at.
ehsnils Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Just check in with SOA before you do anything, if the dealer messed up your car you shouldn't have to take the cost.
