Giro
As the title states, I have 1996 Legacy L sedan with a 2.2l and auto trans. Finishing up head gaskets and fixing other things she needs. Trans pan needed to be resealed, and might as well change the internal filter as well. As it turns out, the recovery magnet is very swollen with metal shaving and I found a few pieces of metal. I could just get a replacement auto trans, but I would rather swap it to manual. I have searched and found a large amount of info and write ups regarding a swap, so I have the general idea of what is entailed. What I am looking to find is which would be the donor vehicle I would need to source parts from. I saw this on a different thread: "for 95 - 99 cars, legacy and impreza: 2.2L engine, 5 speed = 3.9 2.2L engine, auto trans = 4.11 2.5L engine, 5 speed = 4.11 2.2L engine, auto trans = 4.44 pick your poison. the one, kind of exception, to the above is the 96 manual trans OUTBACK, it has the ej22 engine and the 4.11 manual trans" If I'm not mistaken, my 2.2l auto legacy is 4.11, so it seems like I would need to find a 2.5l impreza or a 96 2.2 outback?
