Ludez
So my bl5 has developed a whining/metallic sounding noise above 40 mph, and gets louder with speed. I thought possibly a wheel bearing? Or both wheel bearings?
devobuzz
Turn the wheel when you hear it. It will change pitch if it's a wheel bearing. You should be able if it is front or back.

Max Capacity
See if you can find a large store in a strip mall that you can drive next to with your window down and see if you can hear the noise, may be it will help you pin point the area making the noise. 40mph may be tough. The other way is listen on a flyover or high speed exit ramp on the highway. Turn off the radio and see if you can hear anything as you change directions. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).
