EJ257 long block in a 5eat?

Recommended Posts

So my 08 5eat has rod knock. So i talk someone down on a Ej257 long block with a few upgrades. Is it possible to use the EJ257 on a 5eat? This will be my first attempt at a full motor swap and pretty confident I can do it though not sure i can use the full long block. I have attached a photo of the mods on the motor.

That was the one question I had. If it was dual AVCS it may be more work, to block them off.

member "m sprank" would be the one to ask, PM him.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

Yes you can use the EJ257. In fact I believe the 05 and possibly the 06 OBXT's came with the EJ257. I also don't see why you couldn't use single AVCS sti heads. They are basically the same head that is on our cars. Like Max capacity said, if you were going from a single AVCS to a dual AVCS there would be more work as you need to block off the exhaust AVCS.

Depending on the health of your 5EAT you may want to decide on how far you push it. What are the goals of the car?

If DD you may not want to go too big. 16G has been pretty good for my setup.

I'm not going overboard. It is a DD and because of the rod knock I needed to replace it and got a good deal. If I can get a bit extra out of it I might try but I am not pressed. As far as I can tell the 5eat is in good condition.
