Transmission fluid hemorrhaging

Recommended Posts

So I got the idea that there might be a big problem after reading about the stalling issue and the transmission and the tranny fluid being low can cause it.

I checked my fluid cold and it looked good, but I was getting the sputtering, clunking in gear and when it chirped tires at a stop, I knew something was wrong. Checked the tranny fluid when hot and found this http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b432/mike_parker8/Screenshot_20181005-222154_Gallery_zpswxv3i9p3.jpg

Bought fluid and no more stalling, no more jumping gears. Then today as I was getting the mail, I noticed it dripping hard and when I looked from the top of the engine bay it was coming out of what looks to be a plastic guarded, steering ? I'm not sure and this is a pic and I know its horrible but a guesstimate for now on what would be dropping tranny fluid out of the front of the engine?

This pic is directly top down..

The fluid does flow through a hose into the bottom of the radiator and then returns via a hose.

I'd say you need to replace those hoses.

They look a bit like this:

If you have the plastic undertray still installed under the engine, you may need to remove that to get access from under the car.

Ok, I was wondering about that but I've never seen a tranny hose that big(the hose that looks like it's leaking is large)go to the radiator before. I thought I was going crazy. I'm taking it to the base hobby shop tomorrow cause they have a lift so I can look underneath it.

Since I'm a subie noobie(yeah I said that), what does that go to and from also how hard are those hoses to change?

the service manual may help.

I'm not good with 5eat's.

Your car has a oil filter for the tranny up there somewhere by the coolant tank. May be the filter is leaking.

The hoses I mention are pretty easy to spot if you look at the bottom of the radiator from underneath.

The should be on the drivers side if you're in the US.

They come right off when you squeeze the clamps with pliers.

It all becomes very obvious when you're under there.

I'm not sure about the filter.

I had a hard line that was running from the trans to the filter and cooler rust through and leak in that front corner. I thought it was the hose but it was just dripping down and off of the hose... a flashlight and inspection mirror is your friend in this situation.. clean it all up with a rag and take it for a drive then inspect.
