highlander
So what should be the first mod to my '05 LGT exhaust for performance? Borla Cat back? UP/DP? Headers - and equal length or Borla? This will be prior to COBB AP. should I invest in the K&N intake or just the panel filter? My ultimate goal is about 300 rwhp and believe I will have to change the TIC, fuel, and turbo to reach that. Don't know for sure. franklin
Downpipe. This is the main exhaust restriction. Catted or non- catted should be your first exhaust mod.
Nsaglibene
Downpipe= HP Up pipe= Faster spool Do them both at the same time, because you have to take the DP off to do the UP.
richip
I could only do one at a time (due to funding restrictions) so I decided to go with the UP first for several reasons. One is that once in place, I won't have to touch it again to do the DP install (unlike the reverse). Second, no engine tuning yet and DP benefits most with a tune (it might even be necessary). Third, some posts had me worrying about potential damage to the turbocharger due to stuff getting dislodge from the stock UP. Fourth, as mentioned earlier, faster spool up. jmanzs
I did the dp first, in fact I still havent gotten an up pipe but plan to soon. The main reason I went with the dp is because I already had stage 1 loaded and the only requirement to go to stage 2 is the dp

team23jordan
Good luck getting 300 just to the rear wheels. it depends how much money you have right now if you have money, get the whole turboback or headerback if you don't, wait till you have the money for the whole thing. anyways, i personally got a custom catback first because i wanted to hear the boxer engine better. Then, i got a ceramic coated header with integrated up, downpipe and cut out. btw, AP doesn't go well with aftermarket intake unless you are gonna get a protune. highlander
Thanks for the advice. Ok, so I am used to conventional drivetrain terminology (rwhp)! I figured I would have to upgrade the turbo to get my ultimate goal of 300hp, but wanted to set the foundation to do so. Again thanks for all of the great info. Waxiboy
I wonder how the car will pass emissions with the UP/DP mod.
firedawgs
My opinion: Very first exhaust mod should be the uppipe. It is very restrictive and useless after vehicle warm up. Why do you think Subaru quit putting them on STi and the Legacy. But, again you have to take the downpipe off when you change the uppipe, so you could kill two birds with one stone. nKoan
I'd say get rid of the uppipe cat, and then go for a downpipe+catback or full turbo back. That said, I don't take my own advice and I did the catback section first

TSiWRX
^ Just make sure you get on an optimistic dyno, brotha, and you'll be all-set for 300+ wHP. <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family
AWDxBOOST
uppipe for sure. its the hardest one to put in and you have to take out the dp to put it in anyways, so do it first
BoxerGT2.5
Buy the UP and then save for the DP and install them at the same time. No sense in doing the same install twice. OBAMA......One Big Ass Mistake America!
