Dalee1104
Hey guys been while since I've talked to most of you. I ended up selling me 2nd gen and got a 08 spec b so I've been lurking around the 4th gen forums a lot. Anyways I have a question for some of you guys about engines. My brother is looking to get a subaru and I just found a 98 impreza, 2.2, 5 speed, going for 1000 bucks because the timing jumped. Now if im not mistaken the 2.2 in that car is the same 2.2 found in the later legacys. If the timing has jumped aren't those engine a non interference? Is it even worth going for to try and fix up and drive reliably? It's been sitting for 2 years
Brighton96
That 2.2 is phase 2 which means it is interference I believe, so while the motor may spin freely, I wouldn't try to start it until either after pulling the motor and doing an inspection or resetting timing and doing a compression test. Dalee1104
So probably a no go for the little brother huh. He's not entirely too inclined in mechanics and I've been too busy to take up a project
