DoDo1975
my engine is out and replacing some valves. the valve cover comes off in 2 parts. one part that mates to the head just has machined surfaces and there was no gasket. is this gasket not needed or so we need to silicone it when putting it back together. legacy gt 2005
relative4
Um... Each head has one valve cover. Each valve cover has 3 gaskets. Maybe if you post some pics of what you're talking about, that will help clarify any confusion.
DoDo1975
unfortunately I have no pics and am not near the car at the moment. on each head there is a aluminum header that extends about 30 percent down the head. it raises the profile in that area to be equal to the rest. however below this header and the head there was no gasket, just two machined pieces meeting. I will try to get or find pictures. I couldn't find it in the vacation pics.
DoDo1975
see this link. on the left you can see that the valve cover is not flat and goes down. there is a piece that goes on that space that would make it level with the head. it was between that piece and the head that had no gasket. https://www.partrequest.com/catalog/valve-covers/subaru/subaru-wrx
DoDo1975
Based on page 5/6 of this page I believe its the rocker cover. The underside of the rocker cover does not have a gasket and I believe we need to make a liquid one.
