Sublgcygtlmtd
hello all, pretty new to this site, but wanted to seek advise. when driving my car over 70 mph on the freeway the last week or so i noticed the temp guage rising, if i let off the accelerator it will go down about halfway, so didnt make a bid deal about it. this morning same thing happened but this time the temp gauge did not go down so i had to exit the fwy park my car and wait about 5 - 10 minutes or so. when i opened the hood i noticed that the reserve tank was overfilling. what is the first couple of steps i should take? i would appreciate any help if anyone can please. Thank you
Brighton96
If the coolant tank was overflowing I'd think maybe there'd be too much coolant in the system/overflow. But I'd also question the quality and life left of the coolant in the cooling system. If I were you, I'd start with a drain and fill service. whitetiger
this is the classic symptom of a head gasket failure, on an engine known for HG failures. Combustion chamber to water jacket leak in the HG. Combustion gasses escape to the water system and push out coolant in to the over flow tank. Sublgcygtlmtd
how do i go about checking the inside/outside head gasket???
whitetiger
best thing to do is a hydrocarbon block test. the issue is so common in the SOHC 2.5L that you have, that considering your symptoms of coolant blowing out of the overflow tank, its nearly certain that you have a blown HG. Sublgcygtlmtd
Ok performed the Hydrocarbon Block test and it came out good no blown head gasket, so what i did was flush out the radiator and replaced the thermostat and filled the radiator with anti-freeze and that solved the problem. Thx guys appreciate your input...
