How hard would it be to replace the block in a 05 LGT?

Recommended Posts

Saw a Craigslist ad for a 05 LGT that threw a rod bearing and the owner is selling the car, the block(no heads) from a 2012 STI, and a oem 2010 wrx turbo for 3000

what interference can I expect from switching out the oem block to the 2012 sti? From what I read online they seem to be the same EJ255 engine but I know my luck so it wont be a simple process.

Also since I would be ripping apart the entire engine what upgrades should I do while I'm in there?

Sorry for word soup and dumb questions

I recently did this almost exact same thing to my 05 LGT. I had a spare short block from an 11 wrx that had a ringland issue. I ended up swapping out the pistons with the ones from the 05 as they were all the same size pistons. Put new rings on and have had no issues. I reused the 05 heads and turbo.

I am a full time auto mechanic so did it myself. I would say worth it if work done yourself. If you have a shop do it will add more cost of course. If you do your yourself. I would replace timing belt pulleys and water pump while doing it.
