Red LED gauge illumination

Recommended Posts

I'm about to swap the gauge cluster lighting in the '97 GT to LED's and was wondering if anyone here has used red LED's (I've done both green and blue in the other 2nd gens).

Specifically, I'm wondering if the green coating on the back of the gauge faces would interfere with the red (since they are opposite colors on the spectrum).

You will have to sand off the green coating on the back of the gauges, just use 400+ grit and do the perimeter of the gauges. DO NOT take the face and needle off of the tach, it won't work after you put it back together. If you don't sand them, the color will end up being brown ish

Yeah, I was trying to avoid doing that, but figured the green coating won't play nice with red lighting. Not sure I want to go though all that, unless I can find a spare cluster cheap and try it on that.
