wagon4me
New guy here just stumbling around trying to get preliminary info of what to expect. '05 Legacy GT Limited wagon with the heated windshield... what is the OE or equivalent replacement cost?
howardman
Unsure of oe replacement cost but if it has a chip in drivers view or a crack, it may be worth finding out if you have glass coverage on your insurance. Its usually a 0 deductable claim.
utc_pyro
I paid out of pocket to have mine replaced, it was less than $200.
csaari
Yep, I'm actually having mine replaced tomorrow, quoted price of $185. I had the original windshield replaced in 2008... it cost $350 then.
wagon4me
Interesting prices... wish I could get mine done where you guys have. Local Subaru dealership quoted $560, and the best I have found at a local 'reputable' independent glass shop is $300. Any suggestions how I could get this closer to $200? Claw
Yeah, go with cheap Chinese glass. Benson, XYG are the worst. They pit easily, crack easily, and are way lighter/ thinner then the better quality glass. Guardians, PGW, Pilkentons, Sekurit St. Gobain are the better quality glass. most of these company manufacture the OEMs glass . FY is another chinese glass which are a bit better then XYG and Benson. Guadians and pilkentons are usually manufacture in USA , Canada, Mexico Pgw is Usa and sometimes china.

I need to get mine done, but have had the worst luck with installers doing a crappy job in the past.

GearJamr
I'm in the same boat. Kind of expected though. When I bought the car I didn't notice it, but when I changed the wipers prior to winter I saw there is a crack in my windshield almost all the way across the bottom. Will have to have that replaced myself. Add it to the list!
