subaruowner145 Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 I have a 2000 Legacy GT Wagon and it is stuck in park. I am able to start the car, turn the steering wheel, and the brake lights work. But when I try to shift out of park it makes a clicking sound from the shifter area and will not shift out of park. A clicking sound is also made when I depress the brake pedal after a certain point. The clicking sound can also be heard near the gauge cluster as well. Before this happened the car drove fine but sometimes, when I would shift into drive, it would act as if it was in neutral and then go after some time. Any ideas on what it could be?
OLsubedrvr Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Check your basics, fluid level & color cold and operating temp. Trace the cooling lines from the radiator back, leaks? If you can safely get under, check tranny mount. Have a friend shift, see if any moving parts are moving. The shifter console is a pretty easy to lift out, (search here for replacing auto shifter bulbs). You can look to see if any parts are loose, that could be a problem. Good luck.
