Subaru reprogramming files CD

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’m rather new here and tried searching around about the Subaru reprogramming files cd but haven’t had much luck - I want to know if anyone has bought/used the CD and if it comes with instructions/steps? I bought a Tactrix cable but so far everything I have read seems more oriented to tuning or logging and I just want to put the latest updates on my Subaru’s right now.

Thanks,

I wasn't even aware that such a CD existed, though I suppose dealers need to get their firmware updates from somewhere. Still, I would have thought that FTP, Google Drive or even good old email would make more sense than a CD.

Is there something wrong with your ECU behaviour? Why not simply use the firmware you already have? Or bring it into your dealer and request either a firmware update or a reflash of the latest firmware they have?

As far as Tactrix goes - if you can get hold of the latest firmware file, you can flash it to your car yourself with Tactrix.

Yeah I saw mention of it in places here is the link https://techinfo.subaru.com/stis/#/special_tool

It appears US only - my reasoning is that my experience with the dealers around here is to avoid them unless absolutely necessary plus it takes up hours of time and they would likely charge more than the cost of the CD to do it. Since the updates are published by Subaru to improve engine and transmission functions I know there is room for improvement and want my cars running as optimally as they are capable.

Its very easy to use.

Tactrix OPv2 + FlashWrite (Subarus reflash software) + any modern Windows 7/8/10 PC or tablet with a USB 1.x/2.x port and you can flash away. During the process the software asks for a decrypt keyword provides with each reflash and then does its thing. In the case of an ECU takes no more than 5 minutes from start to finish.

Instructions on the CD in PDF.

Yoi can reflash everything from ECU, TCU, EPB, BIU, Eyesight, Rear View Camera, etc depending on model year and car and what updates are actually available for it.

The US CD has a USDM (and sometimes CDM) reflash database file which FlashWrite uses to reference where to pull a given PAK file with the reflash from off of your HDD (post install). There are other databases too and PAK fulr repositories for JDM, EDM, ADM etc but SoA does not provide or likely even have them (they are visible in the How To, FAQ, User Manual screenshots though lol).

See here for what to look for in terms of latest ECU reflash for your 2015...

Ok. I'm about to come in here and over complicate things.

What is this CD? How do I get one?

Will it allow me to tune my car or is it just a CD full of "optimized defaults" for the car?

How do I use it?

I have a tactrix cable from my lancer days, so theroeticly I could do this yes?

It’s the same cd with all the updates that the dealer gets. Looks like you have to call to order i’ve Called and left a vm so far.

4a) J2534 Reprogramming

Subaru reprogramming files using a generic (non-OEM) SAEJ2534 pass-thru vehicle programming device are available by contacting Service Technical Information Company toll free at 1-866-428-2278. The cost for the CD-ROM with all reprogramming files is $75.00 plus S/H and applicable state tax. Files will be updated four (4) times per year, in CD-ROM format, with all available reprogramming service information at the same above offered cost. Authorized Subaru Dealers are provided the same reprogramming information.

Here is the list of the current updates:

Just an update in case anyone is interested - i received my Subaru J2534 Update CD last week and after doing some research into how it all works ( i intended to pull the current ecu and look at all the details - specific to the TCM since that was the Update I needed on my car but since i couldn't find a definition file yet i got impatient and decided to move forward with subaru's flashwrite software that comes on the cd.

Steps to do the update once the software has been all setup on your windows pc were:

1. plug in tactrix open port 2.0

2. connect usb from tactrix to pc

3. start flashwrite program (looks like something made in the 80s with visual basic btw)

4. search via cid or model - i used model

5. selected the TCM update - pack file # 30919AD721 in my case.

6.Hit continue - it throws up a bunch of warnings about blowing up the car and what not - basically just need to use common sense dont stop the update, unplug the cable, mess with anything while its going on.

7. enter your computers username/password

8.You have to select the Generic Scan Tool out of the 3 options then hit pass-thru

9. In the drop down you choose OpenPort 2.0

10.Now you basically follow the prompts - turn ignition to on (two button presses without brake depressed)

11.There is a part where it asks a Decryption keyword which is included in the Details/notes window of the specific PAK file.

12.It shows a sending reprogramming data and you see a loading bar with a bunch of memory addresses getting written.

13. It tells you to turn of ignition and check the box, then it wants you to turn ignition back on and check a box again and then it does a "Clearing Memory" step.

14. Done - In the notes it said New CID: F4BC080 however my ECM still shows DB4GA01D so I am thinking maybe that CID is not always changed or it is a CID for the TCM specifically and I haven't figured out how to view that yet.

I went for a test drive and I definitely noticed a difference in how the car shifts - seems to "engage" more readily under hard acceleration. Definitely worth it - i still need to do it to by forester too so will see how that one turns out.

14 - yes, the later is correct. the ECM CID and TCM CID are two different things.

You are likely seeing your ECU CID, the TCU CID is what the software reported to you as F4BC080.

Since you have the latest CD (Jan-2018 I assume), can you post up the resultant CIDs for each one of the PAK files I listed here for the 2015-2018 Legacies and confirm what I captured, reply and fill-in the CIDs? Thanks.

You can confirm the reflash took if you attempt it again - FlashWrite will show you're already running the latest/same CALID in the TCU for example. BtSsm and RR logger will show you either one as well. Few other software will.
