1996 Legacy, Ran great but now won't start! Guidance please

Bought it recently after undriven 5 yrs. Replaced fuel with new, new battery, brakes, tires. Ran real smooth and strong.

Had a know sensor code and a misfire code on cylinder 1. Drove it about 150 miles, took it to the detail shop, when I picked it up, I had to overide the shifter lock. After driving a few minutes, I noticed a shake throughout the car, worse than a tire out of balance... The longer I drove, the worse it got. Started to experience Acceleration loss. Took it home and parked it. Now it doesn't start.. ( detailed did not spray the engine, just wiped down the surrounding area under the hood). Ideas anyone? 78k miles 1996 Legacy Wagon 2.2 liter engine.

is that a EJ25D or a EJ22 ?

I have heard people describe such things on long parked vehicles, when the crap in the fuel lines all starts to pile up at the engine.

(so like at the fuel canister / the injectors, or in something older in the carb bowl).

and in this case maybe at the fuel pump inside the tank, (with a collection of varnish ).

+1 on fuel issue. I'd replace that fuel filter and while the filter is removed, I'd turn the ignition on so that the fuel pump starts to prime, put a bottle at the end of the open fuel line and see what comes out. If that all checks out, then I'd maybe pull the sparkplug wires on the cylinder head end and look down into the sparkplug tubes and see if there is water in there. That's an issue I've given myself a couple times when I detail my enginebay.

if you have a knock sensor code, replace the knock sensor first. also, if you do have a cyl 1 misfire, check out the wire/plug there make sure itis OK. I would then chase your fuel issue. Knock sensor will make the car not run lol ask me how I know....
