Jacks05 Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 My kiddo has a 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i 2.5L H4 SOHC 16V engine. He let it run out of oil and now I need options for possible rebuild or a swap. I do not know what engines are compatible with his car and if there are options to upgrade the engine to a gt or wrx? I have read so many different things my head is spinning right now so I would like to know if someone can help? What would you do in this position? TIA Jackie
cseagle08 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Moving from 2.5i to a 2.5-turbo platform (wrx/gt/etc) is going to cost more money than you're probably wanting to spend - especially to replace an engine for someone who is likely to not check the oil. I would find another 2.5i engine from a legacy, or any other subaru of the same generation (around 2005~2009 at least). The 2.5i's should all be functionally the same between impreza/forester/ob/legacy.
