Smithcraft
I've been thinking about something like this also. SC 1994 Legacy MI 2008 Legacy GT specB 2023 Crosstrek Limited
ehsnils
Engine swap means a complete wiring harness swap as well and a lot of stuff, easier to get a complete 3.0 car. Of course - if the interior of the donor 3.0 is eaten by goats or something and the engine and transmission is healthy then it's possible - with a lot of work. I think that I would drop the entire transmission including rear diff and complete wheel suspensions and transplant it to the new car. And of course put a lot of work into transferring the electrical harness. And considering that frank_ster has made a transplant of a Buick engine into a Subie: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140053&highlight=Buick+Heart Then you need to get it inspected/approved for road use. But it depends on where you live how hard that would be. As a bonus you can of course try to get Brembo brakes and Bilstein shocks, making it a 3.0 Spec B! (Europe had them) Also see this thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/rotrex-power-3-0r-68613.html?t=68613
jacobalan1102
my problem is, i live in california... so not only is it impressively hard to find a 3.0r for sale in my area, i’m gonna be losing just about as much on trade in value for my car compared to just swapping it, and then i would be saving on insurance as well. and i drive up to the mountains a lot so my transmission is starting to slip downshifting into 3rd because my car does it so often since it only has 4 f***ing gears and not enough power in 4th to climb a hill
Wasted Potential
It is financially a bad decision to swap it in my opinion if you merely want more power. I lived in a super hilly area with a 2.5i outback 5 speed and it did as expected. If you wanted more torque, shoulda' bought a diesel!
jacobalan1102
it’s not about the small hills it’s climbing a mountain i am dealing with but thank you for your opinion
Wasted Potential
It seems majority of the info has been discussed. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/2-5i-3-0r-swap-238902.html So unfortunately all I have is my opinion to give. Wasted Potential
Pretty sure Perrin did it and went over board. https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=959768 This crayon tastes like my low self esteem
jacobalan1102
i’m not trying to find a guide on how to go all out and spend as much money possible. that first link was very helpful, now i’m mainly wondering about the “little things” he mentioned and what’s so bad with the limited 2.5i suspension because ive noticed my rears are shot but i’m in the process of replacing all 4 with kyb. A swap is going to be more problematic than finding a good replacement car. And in mountains you might be better off with a turbo engine instead. ehsnils
There are people that has supercharged the 2.5i, that's probably a better option.
