Shaun. Meng
Hello all, I've got an 04 legacy wagon with 171,xxx miles on it. The issue I'm having is when I let off of my accelerator in any gear, my car shakes back and forth. Gears 1-3 are the worst, but it is still evident in gears 4 and 5. I'm not really sure where to start looking to find out what the issue is. I think it could be the transmission/engine mounts, or maybe even the clutch, but I'm not entirely sure. Also, every once and a while, If the car is partial shaking, when I try accelerating in a lower gear the car shakes more violently.
RumbleRumble
most likely trans mount or rear diff bushings. Here are insert for the rear diff bushings. Cheaper than replacing them with good results https://whitelineperformance.com/subaru-rear-differential-mount-in-cradle-insert-bushing-kdt927 Suggested 5 speed trans mount https://www.amazon.com/Subaru-D1010FE020-Transmission-Mount/dp/B00I7967OO if that doesn't work it's probably the drive shaft carrier bearing the shaking is when your at a too low of a rpm in gear(lugging the engine). don't accelerate unless your over 1.6k rpms if you can down shift. Shaun. Meng
The shaking isn't from engine bog, its more of the car shifting forward and then back a few times seemingly on/from the transmission. It almost seems like the transmission is loose from the engine, although I know it isn't. It's very hard to describe, and everywhere I look my issue doesn't seem to come up. I will look at that bearing, It could be something in that area. And I think I will replace the mount as well, being as I'm not sure if it has been replaced anytime recently. Hopefully it will help.
