blindguy74
This is my first Sube and..I'm not sure what to think..it's a used car so I know it'll have some things..... I'm kinda perplexed at the motor design which is one thing I l I ke but Jesus it seems like it'll be a pain to work on... so far my aggravation consists of....idle...seems chuggish. Runs fine other than that. I did clean the MAF and put in a K&N air filter....stocker looked like it may of never been replaced... Underhood....rusted accessory mounts....car was in Ohio..so I guess I should expected that. Display lighting flickers sometimes unless I turn the illumination onto the brighter setting.. Ill2 and Ill1 codes every once in a while. Oh and for about a month I've had a small oil leak somewhere...u can smell it..can't see where it's coming from...I took the turbo heat shield off (should I reinstall...it's a POS...broke 3 bolt heads...completely rusted bolts.) 2005 lgt wagon..auto..91,000 miles Silver..all stock. Wish it were a 5spd.. My daily is a 2006 cobalt ss/sc.. Well daily going back and forth to work...I work the dupont swing...when I'm off and on dad duties I'm running my girls around in the wagon. I got it for the styling...the awd...and eventually I'd like to build it up to spank mustangs etc around where I live... Midwest...Southwest Indiana ...evansville/Owensboro.... If I see another Subaru Im usually surpised... Theirs like 1 for every 1500 cars I see it seems...
bergs
Ill2 and Ill1 are the illumination settings on the dash, not an error code. IIRC, it ranges from Ill1 to Ill5 Your description of engine idle sounds normal to me...."lumpy". Oil leak could be turbo seals or valve cover gasket. I've found Subaru engine bays to be among the easier vehicles to work on, even the turbo engines. They are different than everyone else but I do not consider them difficult to perform repairs/ maintenance on.
Dishwasher
Welcome! 91,000 miles is nice and low. This forum is a wealth of knowledge with tons of helpful people. Some things about this motor are really difficult to work on (spark plugs). Some things are really easy to work on (timing belt, which you will need soon). It has it's advantages and disadvantages for sure. They do tend to use oil, get in the habit of checking your oil level regularly. I cannot emphasize this enough. I and many use Rotella T6, other people recommend Motul, it's universally accepted that keeping it full is more important than the type of oil. Things you should look into before buying sweet parts: -Stock airfilter and intake is best if you don't have a tune. -Get a tune as soon as possible, the stock tune causes lean conditions in cylinders 2 and 4 resulting in you needing to buy a new motor. Cobb Accessport is a pretty good buy on this front as it comes with base maps that are safe, and the ability to custom tune which is a lot better. -Check your car for vacuum leaks, they frequently cause "chuggish" type conditions. (I like that word) -If you're interested in a part, research it on the forum first, it's extremely likely someone has done it already, and has written about it. -Check and remove your banjo bolt filters, they tend to clog and blow up your tubo. Good luck, and post pics. Brought to you by Pfizer
blindguy74
Thanks for the info..yeah I figured their was a lot on here etc... Pretty much it's been asked or brought up before etc... If you'd told me 20 yrs ago I'd wanted a wagon I'd thought u were crazy.. I've checked the oil pretty frequently but yet to do it's first oil change. It's coming up fairly soon. And thanks yeah I know the mileage was pretty low by a Subarus standard...especially a 2005.. I was mainly looking at Subaru's with between 75,000 and 100,000 miles... I almost looked at and got a Saab 9-2x..it was an auto too though...it had like 90,000 miles also.

Merc6
Welcome to the forum, Ohio winters is hard on any car in general. I'm sure if my car was running the entire time of ownership it would have been half eaten by rust. 2005 Satin White Pearl Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Unlimited 5EAT (Project Car) 2019 Agate Black Ford Explorer XLT 4WD (DD)
