Question about a 02 leg with stock NA 2.5

Recommended Posts

I've got a friend of my son has just bought this car so I don't know any history but I'd like to help him out. His car will start good run for a few seconds and then die. You can keep it running with the throttle but not easily. For the few seconds that it does run it seems to run smooth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

been sitting a long time?

what happens when you jump it with a good battery?

might be a gummy throttle body, or bad gas.

seafoam aerosol spray can help, with the throttle body. just before tearing all that apart. (tearing open is a last resort but, something that may happen).

bad gas: a whole can of plain seafoam into the tank.

_____

maybe the fuel pump pickup is full of crud. (the filter back there with the pump inside the tank does not let much get to the under the hood fuel filter canister.).

___

I would think if the 2000-2004 fuel pump were having its typical fit of a blown off cap due to a bad Oring. you would not be able to start it at all....or maybe its just getting ready to pop. (you can get at the top of the tank by getting under the back seat. (flip the base forward on a wagon, or unbolt it for a sedan, = pair of bolts are under the rear passengers knees.

you can read through more on Orings and fuel pumps in these here:

Is auto or manual. You can clean manual IACV 2000-2002. Just need a new IACV gasket 4$ from the dealer.

I've had a bunch of bad vacuum hoses. The car never died just idle bad. There is a vacuum diagram under the hood just check them. Use a heat gun or a hairdryer to loose the ends of the hoses so you don't tear them
