divix3
Hello All, We just trade in our ’15 for ’18 model and I have noticed that the ambient temperature sensor (outside one) takes around 20/25minutes to adjust from morning low temperature to the afternoon one after being parked outside during working hrs. Dropping from the garage temp to the colder outside temp it is almost instance. I don’t recall the same symptoms on ’15 model. Have any of you noticed this on your end? apexi
I can't offer much help, but the sensor is cheap and easy to replace, so I don't think the dealer would give you much trouble if you wanted to swap the sensor out for a new one.. MSRP is $13.75, looks like it's in front of the ac condenser like on my legacy. https://parts.subaru.com/a/Subaru_2018_Legacy-Limited-Sedan-wEyeSight-25L-CVT-4WD/_54104_6463800/AIR-CONDITIONER-SYSTEM-CONDENSER--SENSOR/B15-730-02.html
ehsnils
First question is if the temperature changes faster when you drive the car? Many manufacturers have problems measuring the outdoor temperature when the car is standing still or moving slowly because heat from the engine impacts the sensor. Therefore some adds a filter logic to make the sensor to change slower when the vehicle isn't moving to counteract that effect and give a more appropriate reading. So it's worth it to investigate if that's the case before putting any effort into fixing something that is an intentional design.
YeuEmMaiMai
the sensor is much more accurate when their is air moving over it. I have found that with most of my cars the temp updates every minute or so. when you are in stop and go traffic or standing still for a while, radiant heat will alter the reading. divix3
Yesterday after work it took almost 25minutes (driving) to adjust displayed 18F (Colorado morning temp) to 48F temp (afternoon temp/according to the weahter.com). I took around 5minutes to move from 18F to 20F. With my other cars the temperature adjustment takes the most 1 minute or so. I think there is something going on with he sensor so I am going to bring the car to dealership and have them replace/check the sensor. Thanks,
ehsnils
Let's hope that it fixes the problem. If it don't then it's not really the sensor but can be either a software problem or a speed sensor problem.
Ronin3.6R
I have a 17 and here in Colorado it was 11 degrees yesterday morning. It took about 5 min to get from 45 degrees to 11. Every morning I hear the "beep" at 37 warning me about ice that does not exist...
YeuEmMaiMai
^ that's because at those temps it is indeed very possible for ice to form on overpasses and other elevated objects
