Chrisfenner3
Curious if anyone knows if the FA manifold would fit 5th gen turbo motor. I know it won't mount to the factory turbo.
FLlegacy
Apparently the spacing is different and maybe the angle or size of the flanges on the cylinder head, it also I think hugs the block closer and uses a different waterpump and oil pan so the proximity to those things is probably another issue. Sarang
https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2456520 Looks like the flanges and spacing are the same, but that doesn't mean it'd fit.
A_A_ron
Reading through that article it appears the EJ would fit on the FA20 but the FA20 oil pan in is the way. It would be a huge assumption but if the FA20 exhaust headers are built with more clearance in mind there stands a decent chance it could bolt up to ours and have extra room. I would be more interested in the exhaust headers off of the new 2.4 from the Ascent or WRX STI whenever that comes out. As well as what the aftermarket companies decide to throw together. It would be amazing to get aftermarket headers built for an STI that support a twin scroll turbo. Build Thread
cww516
The headers on the 2.4 would probably be a closer match, if there's anything to the concerns in that NASIOC thread about runner diameter. Someone has a long and detailed thread in the turbo powertrain forum about primary and secondary runner diameters and how they affect performance- good read regardless, but it'd be worth a look to see what could change between our headers and the 2.4DIT. That, or we wait for the flood of aftermarket parts to show up, assuming the STI gets the 2.4DIT engine, and drop an STI header and turbo on. FLlegacy
During the Ascent reveal it was said the 2.4dit was unique to the Ascent, I hope not but we will see next year-ish. I would be surprised if Cobb supported tuning on the Ascent given the CVT and high towing capacity, but I am sure getting that engine north of 300 lbft of torque would make a few owners happy. And I keep reading the plan is to sell 60k of them in the first year of production.
cww516
Well, as of right now it's unique, doesn't mean it'll stay that way forever. Could be that the Ascent is the powertrain test bed for the new STI, sorta like the 5th-gen LGT and the '14 FXT were the test beds for the FA20DIT platform in the '15 WRX. Would have been nice to see that 2.4DIT in a Legacy, though...
FLlegacy
I keep hearing from other ambassadors and salesman the STI will probably be a hybrid, if thats the case why waste the potential of the 2.4dit on it. The 2.0 is plenty of grunt for that platform nevermind the added torque of a hybrid system. All speculation though, can't wait to see what comes, something tells me the 2.4 will definitely be in the legacy, but probably backed up with a cvt. A_A_ron
Hybrid? Maybe they'll offer a hybrid option but if they only do hybrid say good bye to your entire mod base. If you are going to compete in rally races with a non hybrid car you better sell something in the same category as that car. Build Thread

The only money subaru makes off most mods is selling new shortblocks, turbos, and clutches ...and the occasional bendover at trade in time
