woodsen
2001 Subaru Legacy GT limited edition I am leaking coolant from somewhere above the oil filter. It looks like it's also running over to the passenger side of the timing belt case. I am not leaking from the driver's side of the timing belt case. I just did my timing belt, cams, water pump, and thermostat as well as my valve cover gaskets. I was leaking coolant from both sides of the timing belt case but once I changed out the water pump I stopped leaking from the drivers side. I'm getting steam coming from the passenger side of the engine block as well, I think it's because of the coolant leak. I don't know what's specifically leaking, any help diagnosing where the leak is coming from would be appreciated.
Setnev
The upper radiator hose, if leaking will leak directly over the passenger side of the motor. There is a small gap between the timing cover and block that at the bottom is the exhaust manifold. Clean it up really good and get some UV dye and pour it into your cooling system. Then use a black light and trace the leak back to the source.
woodsen
Thanks I'll give that a shot! Radiator top hose is new and I haven't noticed any pooling or anything around either end of the hose but I'll tighten down the clamps on it just in case. Setnev
Mine was new too, but my clamp wasn't. Even with new hoses, you should retighten them about 6 months after you install it to make sure your compensating for the shrinkage from the heating and cooling cycles. woodsen
Ok. Clamps and hose are new and were installed less than a month ago
woodsen
For anyone looking at this thread: I decided not to use UV fluid because I can see where the coolant is coming out of the engine block, I just wasn't sure what part of the coolant system would be leaking above the oil filter. Took it to a mechanic to do a pressure test and found that my head gasket needs replaced and is leaking.
