crowboy
While puttering around town the power windows and sunroof stopped opening & the ABS light on the instrument panel is lit- I tried the switch that disables the windows by the window switches to no avail. I'm guessing this stuff is all on the same fuse; at least it crapped out with all the windows closed! Any ideas?

Setnev
You definitely have a blown fuse. The fuse that controls the windows is fuse 18 in the fusebox. Looking at the schematic, that fuse leads to 3 circuits: FB1 which gives power to: ABS control module Main fan relay (4-cylinder engine model) Main fan relay-1 (6-cylinder engine model) Main fan relay-2 (6-cylinder engine model) VDC control module FB20, which provides power to: AT shift lock control module Back-up light switch (MT) Cruise control module Inhibitor switch (AT) Power window relay Wiper deicer relay Wiper deicer timer and FB-21 which provides power to the Cruise Control module. ABS light came on because FB-1 cut power to the ABS module and the power windows and moonroof stopped because FB-20 cut power to the power window relay that feeds both the windows and moonroof. Check that fuse ASAP because FB-1 also controls your fan relays too. Don't need your car overheating. Refer to this chart for location of fuse 18 on the fuse block:
crowboy
Thanks- now that it's light out & not raining it'll be a bit more pleasant to look at!
crowboy
That worked- now the question is, why did it blow a fuse?
RumbleRumble
there was a short in the system
crowboy
Then how come everything works fine now? Where's that short when i need it?? Or do 16 year old fuses lose their oomph & just give up???
Setnev
Could have been a fluke.
RumbleRumble
Fuses blow either cause the circuit was overloaded or there was a short somewhere. Either from damage, loose connection or a slipped wire. The number on the fuse indicates how many amps go through that system. That's why a lot of fuses piggy back off others. Ones that don't produce much amps. If you have too low or the wrong amp for the circuit it will also blow. My cigarette light fuse would pop every time I put a new one in instantly. The ground connection on the 12v outlet was loose from when I took my bezel off. You probably had a intermittent power surge.
crowboy
It popped a fuse the moment I started it up yesterday- hmmm...
Setnev
You've got a short circuit in that system. Since that circuit provides power to 3 different systems, isolate which system is causing the fault. First, start with the easy things. In the information I posted a couple days ago, it says there are a couple relays that control the fans. Check the cooling fan wiring for frays or breaks. Next the ABS module. There is a relay in the ABS module that frequently causes issues. Trace the wiring to the relay and see if the ABS is staying on after you turn off the key. You'll hear a buzzing inside the ABS control module if it is.
crowboy
Thanks- nice to get some specifics, I'll snoop around. Drove car for 120 miles yesterday with no issues but keeping spare fuses at hand
