BKNYCSubyGT
It has been raining a LOT here in NYC lately and I've noticed something that's really bothersome. Whenever it rains or there is dew overnight and I get into the car after not having driven it for a few hours, the clutch seems to do what the brakes do...rust over or something. The clutch is all "stutter-y", for lack of a better way of putting it, and is very unsmooth. As soon as I have a few clutches into the drive from first gear (not quick ones like thru the higher gears), it "wears" off and goes smooth again. Should there really be that much moisture getting into the clutch making it do this? Is this normal?
melayout
Clutch chatter you mean? I think that's normal with cold weather. I keed I keeed
inthedeck
^ +1 definately a by-product of the cold weather. Wait another minute, for the car to warm up, before you leave...and try not to get into boost (i.e. over 3200-4000 RPM) until you see the temp. needle move. Once the car heats up, the tranny fluid heats up, and everything else starts to heat up, and work harmoniously.
BKNYCSubyGT
It only happens when it's wet out. And it's only noticable out of first gear when you have to hold on the clutch to get into gear, as opposed to an easy shift say from 3rd to 4th. But if this is normal (which I've never experienced on any other manual I've owned (and I've owned plenty)), I definitely trust the opinions of you guys on here...especially since you own the same car! deneb
Hmmm...lots of rain out here in the Pac NW lately and I can't say I've noticed this in my LGT. Perhaps your car is parked in a certain angle such that water can get in where it otherwise wouldn't? Maybe it hasn't been cold enough out here to reproduce that behavior on my car. Max Capacity
I can remember mine doing this last year, a couple of times, with 37,000 miles, I haven't felt it in a while. I think it would only do it the first time, then after the car warmed up it would go away. I have friends with Impresa's and they talk about it also. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. zimbonies
I have friends with Impreza's and they talk about it also. My '01 Impreza RS did that everytime it rained. It was particularly bad if it rained AND was cold. I'm sorry to say that I have no solutions for you -- I even took the Impraza to the dealer once -- naturally it didn't studder -- they said there is nothing wrong. That's one of the reasons I traded it on an LGT!
