MilesA
There is a bracket that should be mounted to two of bolts on the turbo-downpipe connection, did you mount that? There are six or seven 10mm bolts all together. Did you break off any of the heat shield bolts? You can afford to lose one or two. When reinstalling the heat shield, I found it was easiest to secure the shield to the top bracket using two bolts as a first step. Don't tighten them down all the way yet. Now, go around and loosely put in the other 10mm bolts into place. Then, tighten them all down. Even though you aren't installing an aftermarket heat shield, you use the pictures in this guide to show you the correct bolt and bracket locations. http://www.grimmspeed.com/content/install_guides/heat_shield_subaru.pdf
Max Capacity
If you have a big downpipe you may only have 3 bolts left. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. rougeben83
yeah there are over half-dozen 10mm bolts on the turbo heatshield, including all the way down by the downpipe. You can run just the 3 top bolts and it'll be fine.

Infosecdad
Any tips on getting the bottom bracket around the downpipe? Are you referring to the lower heat shield that is typically mounted on the downpipe? If it is the stock downpipe, a picture would help. When I went with an aftermarket downpipe, I just left it off. ShowMeUrOsFace
The one that goes around the turbo comes off in two pieces, the big price that is clearly visible under the inter cooler and the other piece that goes on the bottom side on the driver side
MilesA
If I'm understanding you correctly, I believe you need to position that lower shield under the turbo before you mount up the downpipe.

Yeah, that lower shield ticked me off and is currently sitting on my shelf in the garage...

Chulew
Any tips on getting the bottom bracket around the downpipe? Had the same issue. Use the image in this thread to see how to orient it and then bend the right, lower, rear corner about an inch upward. It will go right on with the pipe installed. Then bend back once in. DaveWaters
Is there any real benefit to having the lower heat shield installed? Since there is no longer a mounting point on my uppipe, I left it off and hacked the top cover to fit my cobb downpipe.
