cmayszak
After I turn off my 05 Legacy Outback, get out of the car and lock it, it sounds as though the engine is trying to turn over. The tail lights, dash, and park lights light up for about 15-20 seconds. Then they go off, the car is dark and quite for a few more seconds, then this process repeats itself 1-2 more times. I do not have an automatic start. The car is a turbo. Does anyone know what's happening here? It's awfully spooky. I've had the car for about 3 weeks, and this has been going on since I got it. And now both my tail lights are out...
dirtjumper787
Do you have a turbo timer installed?
cmayszak
I have no idea. What would that do?
bdcvg
Keep the engine circulating oil to cool the turbo.
dirtjumper787
Id look under your steering wheel and see if theres some kind of aftermarket items installed or something that looks out of the ordinary. You're welcome to post a pic in a reply here and I can look as well.
BoozeRS05
I'd suggest filling out your profile. It helps us identify your vehicle specs and your location so we're able to offer suggestions. It might be that someone installed some aftermarket parts as mentioned, and you're seeing electrical issues as a result. If you don't know how to identify these things it's wise to get someone else that does. Wiring is easily my weakest skill set, but there are things to look out for - loose/modified interior panels, wire bundles, cut wires, control boxes, etc.. Norskie
My dad's F350 did this. Turns out water got into the ECU and was shorting it out. New ECU (and windshield seal) solved the problem.
