Recommended Posts

Hey guy i just picked up a 2005 LGT wagon, i filled it up with 92 the day i bought it I've gone through 3/4 tank and have only amounted 110 miles. I haven't been driving her to hard and when I'm sitting at an idle I can smell gas inside the car any ideas where I should start looking?

I just had the gas tank replaced in my 05. A nipple on the back of the tank rusted off. Had a new fill pipe installed too.

You may have a vacuum leak. Have a boost leak test performed, or sometimes called a smoke test. It will show if a vacuum hose is leaking.

Free things to do first, clean the MAF sensor, buy a can of MAF cleaner from the auto parts store.

Is the air filter clean and installed correctly, the box/cover can be hard to get on right

How old are the spark plugs ? are they the correct NGK plug ?

05's have leaky fuel lines under the intake manifold. search for that on google. I lock wired mine so they wouldn't leak years ago.

http://people.csail.mit.edu/ilh/vacation/ you'll happy to read that if you don't have the service manual yet.

5mt or 5eat ? how many miles ?

OH YEA, learn how to check the oil and NEVER let it get low. Always top it off. I park the car on level ground at work, open the hood, pull the dipstick, lay it on the intake manifold and loosen the oil fill cap, close the hood. After work wipe dipstick, check oil level.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

It's a 5mt with 183,000 on it, I replaced the driver side valve cover gasket last week and started noticing the smell (only when the heater is on by the way) after that. I know the oil is good being that I had to replace it at the same time. I will look into the boost test and other things you pointed out also thank you. I didn't replace spark plugs when replacing valve cover gasket which i probably should being that I was right there.

The clamps holding the rubber fuel hoses to the fuel rails loosen up, especially when cold. When you smell fuel, look for dark spots on the hoses, and tighten up. I added nuts to lock them.

I will definitely check that, I didn't start smelling the gas until temps got below freezing in the morning.

Thank you max capacity I will check that out a little later on.
