Question regarding accessory lighting options

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I already know about the lighted sill plates and the interior lighting kit (the ones that are the footwell, storage pocket and cup holder lights), but the accessory harness has three options available on it, including an accessory flood light I believe it is called.

Does anyone know the flood light part number and how/where they mount?

I know the front doors have a flood light on them already. At least on my car there is one (I believe it is on the rearview mirrors) that comes on when you open the doors along with the puddle lights. Does that mean my car already has this harness installed? Or is there an optional light further back on the door itself underneath (I remember seeing a picture that looked like that).

I already ordered the expensive interior illumination package. I also think I have found a set of lighted door sills as well. I am thinking if I am in there doing everything, I might as well install the extra floods if they are still available, and if not, see if I can do something custom in their place.

Any info is appreciated.

Puddle lights, or courtesy lights? The courtesy lights are the ones on the doors, puddle lights are in the side skirts. I don't have the puddle lights myself, so I can't be much help on those. If you're referring to something else entirely, though, I'm not going to be good for much beyond a blank stare.

The harness that is used to connect the extra optional lighting packages is the "roof accessory harness". It is used for three different lighting options, one being the lighted door sill plates, another being the interior auxiliary lighting kit, and the third being some sort of flood or accessory outside lighting option.

I cannot find which is the third option. If Subaru never made the third option, so be it. But I can remember seeing some information about optional flood lights on the doors or something along those lines.

Tomorrow I get the interior accessory lighting kit in. I will admit I really only want to do the install once, and the damn sill plates are still at least $150+ (cheapest I can find for the OEM ones) without the accessory harness.

So, in my quest to find a cheaper option, I ended up finding:

These stainless sill plates with lighting for both front and rear.

I ordered them just now, so I don't expect to see them until at least the end of the week, so I will have to report back at how they are when they come in. I requested blue lighting, but also specified that white would be OK if that is all they have available.

If they are the kind that you have to stick on with double-sided tape I have the perfect stuff, as it will also seal the area as well. Only problem with that stuff is to pull it off you have to use a heat gun and have patience. So it is really a permanent-type of adhesive. Nice thing about it is the stuff I have is really low profile so there won't be any sort of side lip to come up.

I figure it might be something of a challenge to do the rears, as I know the fronts require you to make new holes and everything for the wiring.

I do plan on adding in some rear footwell LED lights as well once I get things installed. I have quite a few backseat passengers, so I figure why not make it nice for them in back as well.

So I got shipping confirmation... Shipping from China (as I half expected)...

As far as the adhesive, it is a 3M high-end product. 3M makes a bunch of different grades of products, and even though even the lower-end stuff is reliable, the higher-end stuff is OEM-grade.

I have found another such option, look a little more like the OEM sills, but list that they are for 2015-2018 model cars. I may just end up ordering a set of those as well and see if they are useable. I don't know how drastically different door sills will be between model generations.

These are killers. Everyone is amazed how they look and they cost just 10$. Probably the cheapest WOW you can get. They are direct fit.

Huge thanks! I am definitely doing these.

Well, I got the sill plates in, they look great, basically can either mount them on top of the existing sills (which is what they expect you to do I believe), or you can put them on in place of the existing sills.

I got them hooked up and asked the wife for her opinion, and she was all against me putting them on. Stated she didn't even like the ones on our Lincoln MKS (which are factory).

So, considering there is some effort required to install them (at least running the wiring) and since she doesn't like *ANY* lighted sill plates, I figured I would sell them. So they are posted in the classified section. There are pics of the sills both with overhead lighting as well as in the dark.

If it was *my* DD I would install them. I think they are pretty classy.

She also killed the idea of the mini-projector door light replacements as well. My life just got a whole lot easier because of that. But, she still wants me to install the interior lighting. Go figure.

As for the interior lighting, I already purchased 4 of these::

The idea is to install them under the dashboard with some double sided tape.

But I have no idea how to power them.

Any suggestions on which will be the easiest way to connect them to the existing door courtesy light/interior illumination electrical circuit?

Tell ya what, I still haven't installed the interior lighting kit, so what I will do is go through and document the pinouts used on the pillar harness.

That should give anyone the info they need to wire in either fixed lighting (like the door sills) or dash-dimmed lighting (like the interior illumination kit).

I will also cross-reference the pinout to the FSM and let everyone know what the extra pins on the pillar harness do.

Hello. Any success in figuring out which are the dash-dimmed lighting wires and where are they located?

Thanks

Hello guys. Just to bring back the subject alive one more time.

I want to install some lighting under the dashboard close to the footwell which will lit with the opening of the doors.

I'm looking for the best place to wire them to the existing electical system.

Any suggestions on which are the correct wires of the existing door courtesy light/interior illumination electrical circuit? I'm looking for the wiring diagrams of the 2010 Legacy 2.5i model - there was a link it the forum but I couldn't find it.
