The dreaded avcs heads question.

I have an avcs ej203 in my 07 legacy wagon. It ate at least one rod bearing so now I'm looking at my options.

 

There's a non avcs ej203 in Calgary, (I live in Edmonton). My question is, what does it take to swap my heads on to the non avcs short block. Some googling has told me that it might not be as simple as bolting them on. I read a few articles on the nasioc forum but they seem old or are using a non avcs ready ecu. I'm just wondering if this is possible or worth it.

Mike has a really repair shop, so if you reach out to him, make sure you use him for parts too.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

Hello fellow Albertan!!!

 

I was in a similar position a couple of months ago and I highly recommend taking the block to a local machine shop for them to check out. If there's not too much damage the machinist can essentially salvage the block and save you tons of money. I know when I rebuilt my engine I saved at least $3000 going this route. Call a couple subaru mechanics and see if they'll recommend a machinist, that's how I found mine and he did an amazing job.

 

I think this would be less of a headache in the long run than trying to switch to a non avcs block.
