justin89t
Whenever I fill my tank full until the point I've used about a quarter of the tank the cabin of the car and my garage have a very pungent fuel smell. It's been getting worse as time passes and it is obnoxious enough now that I need to do something about it. I am taking the car in soon for recall work, but I am out of warranty or I'd just let the dealer take care of this. My question is: Is this a problem anyone has ran into with a fairly easy fix? I'm not keen on paying the dealer to diagnose and repair if it is a known issue I can fix on my own. If not a known issue with an easy fix I will certainly let the dealer at it. I had not thought about that. My thoughts on that... 1 - I always let the pump automatically shut off, and I do not top the tank off. 2 - The fuel I put in seems on par with what I've been filling up for the past 50K from a indicator gauge/fuel replaced perspective, though I understand that's entirely subjective. 3 - My mileage has decreased by about 2 mpg the past several fill ups (I have documented every fill up since new) 4 - I have never seen any indication of spillage during fill up other otherwise. I understand that gas would evaporate very quickly, however I would expect to see some indicator of leakage - if even in the dirt on the paint
upstater
never had the issue you are describing the car has a system to deal with fuel evaporation/vapor (that air pump sound we often hear and get questions from other owners all the time, starting randomly and intermittently, even hours after driving the car) sounds like there may be an issue with your car, take it in and have a tech check it out. Maybe a hose is disconnected and the pump is venting to your garage instead of condensing those vapors back into the gas tank. fill out your profile, that helps others help you

Perhaps that's the problem hahaha. I'll take a visual look and see if there's something obvious. Now that you mention the evaporation it jogged a memory about Charcoal canisters, perhaps that line popped off somehow. Hah. I guess i did just assume everyone knew what kind of car I drive didn't i. Fixed. Thanks for the reminder.
