Falcor
There maybe hope yet. honestly out of all the various functionality points I could lose I think my storage pocket would be missed the most. I miss that more than anything else going from the Outback with no NAV to the GT.
A_A_ron
It's surprisingly convenient. The pocket in front of the stick isn't deep enough for anything and has the 12v plug. The center console comportment is just a mess and the glove box is too far away. Build Thread
Mrstacy
Santa brought me this huge android screen. I was trying to install myself, but it is greek to me. Will a pro have any trouble just given the diagram they provide or do i need a pinout chart? http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/navigation-screen-help-267283.html?t=267283&highlight=Santa+brought+navigation+screen

Mrstacy
The pin out guide is on the power box. missed that. I'll take it to the shop and see what they want to charge.
A_A_ron
Merry Christmas MrStacy! Looks like you were cleared of all charges and acquitted of any wrong doing if Santa brought you that. I'd say you are on the right track. This stuff can be done at home but you need to take your time and a few refresher youtube videos on electronics wiring and common acronym meanings. Mrstacy
^ one of the highly rated installers charges less than 150 for this, so it goes to him tomorrow. By the time i bought all the parts i needed, i'd be out half that.
A_A_ron
Great call! I rebuilt some speakers for my Dad a couple years ago as a Christmas gift. I spent half as much on a soldering iron, supplies, wire, and other little things as I did on the project itself. I don't blame you one bit for handing it off. A_A_ron
Whew, I thought I was going to have to dig through my old phones to find the project pictures. I agree with you though; we need to see pictures of this install. Build Thread

TwoTone
I assuming you have to dual zone and not manual climate for this to work?
Mrstacy
^ Dual zone, but we couldn't find the climate control on the unit. it is kind of redundant since the controls are right below the screen. perhaps they figured that and left it out? Mrstacy
After about 8 hours, it is done. The main problem was the lack of documentation and how to work the menus. There is a menu for setting up the steering wheel controls even. Didn't find that until the last hour of work. The audio shop was really apologetic about not getting everything perfect and it taking so long. They did keep with their quote of 150 dollars though. About 2 hours in they got the sound to work and the manager commented on how good it sounded. Not sure if that is the screen or the Harman Kardon sound system or a combination. The backup camera works, but that grid it displays when going in reverse doesn't twist with the turn of the steering wheel. One problem is that the clock above the screen can't be set now that i removed the OEM radio. Not sure what to do about that. Overall, i think it was a good buy. i downloaded a few apps that i like (Sirius XM and Waze, specifically) and i can see this adding a new dimension to the car. Since i spent so long at the shop, i'll have to learn more about it in the days to come. But, i plan to take it back so that they can finish up on a few more things. TwoTone
You'll never get an active backup grid without some kind of steering wheel sensor. It wouldn't have a way to know how far you're turning the steering wheel and thus adjust the grid accordingly.
cww516
Far as setting the clock, it looks like cars with and without nav should both have the same clock module. Near as I can tell from looking at the vacation pics, it may end up being an instrument panel programming thing if the buttons on the clock module don't work. chocmlk
I wonder if it could run Torque or a similar app to give you a real time display of your cars diagnostics via a bluetooth OBD2 connection?
A_A_ron
I wonder if it could run Torque or a similar app to give you a real time display of your cars diagnostics via a bluetooth OBD2 connection? This is exactly what one should do with this type of mod. Only reason they shouldn't is if they don't care about those numbers or if they get a digital dash. One of the goals for my car is to have live engine/tune stats on the screen and even be able to switch tunes from there as well. Shadow_419
Seeing this mod has the gears turning in my head. I just bought a double din Pioneer that I haven't installed yet, but I could get a single din Android os radio with a fold out display for active gauge monitoring with btssm. Replace the cubby under the radio with the single din Android
coco26
This also has me considering scrapping my Raspberry Pi project in favor of this. Mr. Stacy, what exactly did the shop have to do? Just decipher which wire went to where on the harness? Did all those connectors have to be cut off and each wire individually spliced or did they mate correctly? Also, how is the fit and finish of the plastic piece compared to the stock one?
