if this is in the wrong place let me know nd ill move it

so, as some may know, I drive a busted up 99 GT with a salvaged title. it's slowly falling apart but Grandaddy Earl got me from Cali to Texas and soon Texas to Washington. HOWEVER! I keep running into these manual 2013-2014 Crosstrek for around 15 000 and I keep almost buying it, but then I don't. mainly because I actually don't know much about them and have never owned a new vehicle (i like shit I can abuse).

what would be this forum opinion on the matter? I'm going to look at crosstrek Saturday, but im being so indecisive

I love a little discussion about alternate Subies. Recently my fiance and I went car shopping and top on our list was an older Crosstrek. We love the look of them, it's rugged exterior styling is what got me to agree to look at them. Once we test drove the first one, we were very turned off by it. Our initial thoughts were: "Where did Subaru go wrong?" A vehicle with the exterior looks that promise to inspire was very underwhelming. We test drove a 2013 Crosstrek Premium with nav, heated seats and the dealer had it priced at $15,360. It had about 60k miles on it and it felt like it had 120k miles on it. The interior felt cheap, felt like there was was no NVH protection, you heard the engine all throughout the RPM range, and the CVT felt slushy. We test drove another one, a manual 2015 limited for shits and giggles, though were in the market for an Auto, and it was no different. My 99 Outback felt the same. When consulting with other people who bought newer Subarus, it was the same feeling. Exterior looks very rugged and tough, Subaru falls flat with interior styling and NVH. Two of my coworkers own newer WRXs, a 14 and a 15, and they say the interior plain sucks. My fiance's 01 LL Bean and our 02 Forester has more stylish interior and better NVH than Crosstrek. I'm really sad for Subaru right now. We ended up finding and buying a very low mileage 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium for about 3 grand less than the 13 Crosstrek we drove and has a boatload more features and a 2.0L Turbo motor with about 100 more horsepower and torque and near identical MPGs.

I've actually considered the same thing as well, only N/A subaru with a six speed, but i do not now if thats a USDM thing or not, i watch car reviews from around the world so my fax get mixed up. Bummed to hear that about them still would like to take a test drive on one.

Another vehicle that is pretty competitively priced next to the crosstec that i haven't heard much on is the MINI countryman... i don't know what it is but i keep coming back to look at them. probably outrageous maintenance upkeep and pricing but whatever.

I own a 2014 Impreza as well as three 2nd gen Legacy's and I prefer the older ones. The CVT with the FB20 engine (same powertrain as the Crosstrek) is laggy during acceleration, although a bit quicker off the line than my 4EAT equipped cars. The old Legacy's just feel more solid to me even though the new Impreza are the same size as 1st/ 2nd gen Legacy's. I haven't driven a new stick equipped Subie, but I imagine it's a bit quicker with the FB20 engine.

i need the cargo space lol i feel like the impreza doesnt match to my 2gen in that aspect. i feel you though lol i want to keep my car so bad, but salvaged title and low gas mileage makes it unreasonable. especially when im driving basically cross country for the second time in 4 months

If you feel the Impreza doesn't have the cargo space, the Crosstrek is going to be the same. There is literally only 1.5 inches more length behind the rear seat in the Crosstrek than the Impreza. They're built on the same chassis.

I have the Impreza sedan which has a very useless trunk. I regret not getting the Crosstrek actually and I will probably buy one new a few years down the road. In the meantime, I'll enjoy my Legacy wagon.

More. I have fit so much in the back of my 99, its ridiculous. A complete unassembled full-sized $500 BBQ grille fit in there, in the box, with the seats up, with room to spare. It's something like 44" of space with the seats up from seat back to tailgate and like 67" with the seats folded from front seat back to tailgate.

Here are the dimensions:
