Crossbar Part Number for stock Subaru rack rails?

Recommended Posts

For low profile (I like for boxes and bikes), Yakima RailGrab. For standard height (ski/board), Yakima Easy Rider (or Locking Easy Rider, even taller).

Your box needs to be 76" or shorter. RocketBox 16 is OK, or Atlantis 1600, but Evolution 1600 is far and away the best fit and IMO the best looking.

A Thule 440 will fit if you can find the right SR kit. I can look it up for you tomorrow night when I get home if you're interested.

I doubt you'll find new OEM cross bars, may be on ebay.

I have a Thule, I bought both the wagon and the sedan mount kits so I can move the box forward and open the hatch all the way.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

Max, you sexy devil! Been in the rack biz almost a decade, never seen that solution. Nice work!

What has been the most frustrating and confusing for me, is if you go to Thule or Yakima's websites and put your vehicle in, 2005 legacy gt etc, it states that nothing in compatible. So if someone wants cross bars, how do you know what will work and what won't?

I've heard people mention the "RailGrab", but its been discontinued and is very hard to find. I've seen newer cars such as Audi's with the same style roof rails, I wonder if we could use a newer style cross bar like the thule aero bars thats made to fit one of these newer vehicles with the similar designed low pro roof rails.

Yes that would be helpful. It’s good to have options.

The kit for the 440 is SR2. There's one currently on eBay for a great price. A rare find.

Here's a full list of base rack options. I will also post this on the sticky.

Low profile:

The OEM (Thule-style) square bars were made by Mont Blanc. Those and a newer aero-style version are still imported by PerryCraft in Sparta, NC. See their website for retailers.

http://www.perrycraft.com/c-9609-1998-2007.aspx

Another square bar option was the Thule 440 specialty rack with kit SR2. Production was brief and availability is limited, especially the SR2 kit.

Yakima RailGrab towers make for an especially low profile. Just discontinued, availability is plentiful. Fitting these takes special care to avoid contacting the roof paint.

Standard profile:

Yakima EZ Rider towers are a nice fit. Discontinued quite a while back, availability is limited.

High profile:

Locking EZ Riders are maybe half an inch taller than non-locking EZ Riders. Availability is similar.

A common question from people who've never seen $2000 worth of gear fall off their roof at highway speeds. Roof racks should FIT.

Agree, until you've seen the box move around at highway speeds when a big truck fly's by you...then you'll be glad you have the correct rack system for your car.

You want the Canadian -spec OEM crossbars.. They're damn hard to find now, but still out there. A set came up on Kijiji locally about a month ago..

I've mounted a Thule Boxter on mine. Looks pretty awesome:

Edit: Maybe this guy still has the Canadian OEM crossbars:
