Tubbybuttons_777
Hi Legacy family, I had a problem with smoke coming out of the passenger side of the car, smell of oil being burned off other the exhaust pipe. I took it into an automotive shop and to them that it could be the PCV valve or maybe Valve gasket covers, sure enough they called me saying the leak was coming from the gasket covers. I went ahead and told them to replace it for $400. Got my car back and drove it not only 15 miles to have the check engine light come on with the cruise control flashing. The car was running fine and being that the check engine light was solid I took it to Orileys to have the code read being a P0171 code: Bank 1 system too lean. I was thinking this was something to do with air/fuel ratio. (My car is completely stock and at 182,000 miles). On the way home I stopped by Walmart only to come out to my car not starting first try. It took a minute and a little bit of gas to get it going. This had me a bit concerned, I decided to pop the hood and check the oil levels... I kid you not the oil was overfilled up almost up to where the dipstick turns and bends possibly a Quart past the full line. I'm worried that there could be air bubbles in the engine oil from being ran at that high of oil levels for the few miles I did drive it. I have the car parked right now and am going to be waiting til Monday for the shop to open. Could it be possible to damage the engine already? I'm wondering if there is any motion that the oil could've gotten to like the crankshaft pushing bubbles of air into the oil. I guess you can't trust anyone else doing work on your car.. any help would be appreciated!
relative4
If it's not to the twist, you should be fine. 90% chance the shop didn't properly close the air box or didn't properly attach the hose from the air box to the inlet. Also possible they didn't properly reattach one of the valve cover breathers, but off the bat I don't see that causing a lean condition.
Max Capacity
182,000 miles and you've not noticed what happens with checking the oil on these cars... To get a true oil reading, you need to pull the dip stick, loosen the oil fill cap and walk away. My routine is once a week, when I get to work, park on level ground, pull the dip stick, loosen the oil fill cap and set it on the tube. 8 hours later, come out and check the oil level. At home I wait at least 15 minutes. Even my old Murry lawn tractor with a twin cylinder boxer style engine would show the oil way up the dip stick when I checked it a week or so after mowing. Just something these boxers have taught me over the years. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Still quite a bit, I would let it sit and check it after filling up each time (siting for 15 min) which is often more than once a week. I've never seen it get that high before. Thanks for the suggestions I'll check into them!
